Aug 22, 2022- The 2022 U19 & U23 World Championships held in Varese Italy on July 25th - 31st, 2022 proved to be a successful campaign for the SHARKS, earning 8 medals across various events and boat classes. HUDSON was proud to support the U19 USA & Canadian National Teams, and the U23 Canadian National Team.
The first medal of the championship went to the USA, winning the Women's U19 4+ event for the second year in a row. Having set a new World's Best Time (WBT) in their preliminary race for lanes (6:54.50), the crew coached by Community Rowing Inc.'s Skye Elliott went on to eclipse their own WBT during the A final in a time of 6:52.84, finishing ahead of Italy and Romania.
For the second year in a row, the U19 Women's 8+, coached by Chicago Rowing Foundation's Mike Wallin, dominated the field, placing 1st and setting an impressive new U19 World's Best Time of 6:12.16, for this blue riband event .
Head U19 Boys Coach Eric Gehrke led the U19 Men's 8+ to another medal performance at the World Championships, winning Bronze behind Germany and Great Britain. There were three returning members from the 2021 U19 Men's 8+, including coxswain Adam Casler.
Nathaniel Sass and Calin Hayy raced in the U23 Men's LWT 2- and earned the USA another gold medal in a time of 6:36.94, finishing ahead of Italy and Chile. Sass and Hay placed 4th in the U23 Men's LWT 2- in 2021.
Only a few weeks after winning the 2022 NCAA Championships, Head Coach Dave O'Neill and four University of Texas Longhorn athletes took to the international stage, representing the USA in the U23 Women's 4-. Finishing in a time of 6:38.12, the USA claimed the world championship title over Great Britain and Australia.
SHARK Team Athlete Isaiah Harrison returned to the world stage after a bronze medal performance in 2021 racing in the JM1x U19 category. Harrison made his debut in the BM1x U23 division, posting a time of 7:14.89, claiming Silver just behind Germany.
Elisa Bolinger and Grace Vandenbroek, the U23 Women's 2x representing Canada, placed 2nd in a time of 7:04.70, just behind Romania and ahead of Great Britain.
Canada's Stephen Harris realized a dream reaching a World's podium with a Bronze medal performance in the U23 Men's Lightweight 1x. Harris was part of the 2021 Canadian Junior Team, competing in the U19 Men's 4x.
The Senior World Championships in Racice, CZE are on the horizon, September 18th - 25th, 2022. SHARK Team athletes Kara Kohler, Ben Davison and Trevor Jones will be among those representing HUDSON on the international level.
